Archie Quality
by  ForeverRetro, February 19th, 2015, 3:17 am

I have to say, my friend, I am quite impressed.
An anecdote, if I may. I recall walking down the aisle of my local comic book shop the other day and after buying the latest issue of Mega Man, I thought to myself how cool it would be if Archie had the rights to do other comic book adaptations of video games. The first thought that came to mind was Super Mario Bros.

Not only have you ultimately delivered on that concept, but you have fully realized Mario's origin in written form which has never been done (admittedly, a little hard to do considering the conflicting media portrayals of where Mario came from). It is very accurate to the modern games, while retelling the story of the very first Mario game. I am impressed.

Also, the fact you started off with the classic arcade "Mario Bros" as the stepping stone to launch off the story of "Super Mario Bros" is pretty awesome. I may be getting ahead of myself, but I wonder if there will be any references to Donkey Kong (the game, not the character - Super Mario's debut). That might make a fun flashback chapter all to itself.

Anyway, all my fangasming aside, this is an overall great and well-drawn comic and I hope it never ends. Can't wait to read the next one!

I'm not even a big fan of webcomics.

Loving this comic so far! I love how you're fleshing out the personalities of the usually two-dimensional Mario cast. Wasn't a fan of Peach in general, but I really like how you depicted her - kind, wise, calm, and wanting to do what's right for her kingdom.

@Mike: She DID have a moment of un-royalness when she was wanting to know what kind of monsters were in the pipes...

@Leroy: Princess Peach Toadstool did that because she cares dearly of her people's safety and needs to know the threat.

So now they finally meet. And no dialouge either, Is this the Bowser that Loves peach or the one that just wants her for her kingdom?

@Danny8bit: Even after Mario and Luigi defeat Bowser and rescue Peach, will there still be more comics?

@AwesomeMario: This current plot seems to be the original Super Mario Bros. from 1985, and they said the comic would be based on the entire franchise, so they'd probably continue with Lost Levels or USA or whatever game they choose.

@UltraGamer8989: So, will they eventually get to the Paper Mario and Mario Kart games and the like?

@Guest: Saying we're "overdue" implies that we have an actual ongoing schedule..... Which we don't.......

You could at least TRY to go weekly, at this point it feels like you don't even care that you have a bunch of people waiting on you ._.

@DatNuttyKid: Dude, we have lives, man. I'm in the military, and the artists have college work they're worrying about...

Trust me. We WANT to put the comic out as often as possible. But, it takes a lot of time.

The comic's completely free. You're paying absolutely nothing for it. Y'all just chill out....

I really love how tense and dramatic this scene is. It shows some nice story writing skills on your part. I hope to see more soon!
(Don't stress, though - better late then never, as they always say.)
Also, I don't know why, but the Paratroopa looks oddly cute in the first panel. I don't know, maybe it's the angle of the shot.

I know I'm way behind, but I would like to say that I agree with ForeverRetro. This is probably the best fan-depiction of Mario's origin I've seen that doesn't use the American canon (Mario Bros. lived in Brooklyn). While I kind of prefer that as my headcanon, this is great way to start the Bros' adventures for people who doesn't like the Brooklyn/Real World canon.
